wHY the 2-Week College Application & essay workshop?

Year after year, I’ve seen students become unnecessarily overwhelmed by the college application process.

Fear of the unknown leads to procrastination and paralysis which negatively affects a student’s confidence and sanity. Students feel frustrated and lost, and when parents try to help, arguments break out – and no one wins.

There is a better way!

I created this workshop to help students step into action and take ownership of their college applications and essays.

Students will save time by accomplishing it all efficiently and effectively. And, they’ll feel confident knowing they did it themselves while creating space to enjoy their summer and senior year!

In the meantime, parents can say good-bye to walking on eggshells as their student is coached by a professional. No more arguments – just check-in’s and smiles!

What Does It Do?

Over 2 weeks, students will participate in three hour-long meetings and be coached on how to methodically complete their college applications and essays.

They will leave each meeting with accountability targets and actionable goals in order to execute on each task.

Students will gain a sense of confidence, accountability, and responsibility as weekly tasks are clearly laid out before them in easy-to-follow steps. Plus, I’ll share effective time management strategies to help students stay on track and achieve their goals.

Meetings will also include time for essay and personal statement development so that students can:

  • Brainstorm ideas to create their most impactful story

  • Leverage their support system to find the most helpful editors

  • Narrow their focus to create a personal statement that is uniquely theirs

In addition, students will have one hour-long individual session with me for essay development and edits.

Through it all, I will share insider tips that I have accumulated from working directly with seniors over the years.

Group coaching of up to 10 students in a group will be conducted live with me, Penny Kostaras, Wise Student founder and Academic & Life Skills Coach, online via Zoom. 1-hour sessions will be held three times over two consecutive weeks beginning in early June. The one-hour 1:1 session for essay edits will be scheduled individually.

I will lead lively discussions through the interactive Zoom platform where students can engage in conversation and ask questions. I will guide the group via video and sharing my screen. Students will have the option of participating with their cameras on or they can choose to keep them off for privacy and still have voice capability and use of chat features.

Video recordings will be available if a student has to miss a meeting.
